Lingana

Type – Hill Fort.

Height – 908 mts from sea level and 300 mts from base Linganamachi.

Range – Raigad.

Grade of difficulty – Very hard (requires technical rock climbing with equipment).

Approximate time to climb – 1 hrs till Lingana-machi and 3 hrs for pinnacle.

Nearest town – Mahad, Dist. Raigad.

Accessibility – From Mahad, transport buses ply to Paane village at the base of Lingana twice a day. With a climb of 1 hr from Paane village one can reach to Lingana Machi. After another hour climb of slippery route once can reach the caves located at the base of the Lingana Pinnacle. There after one needs technical rock climbing on full patch towards the top and expertise is advisable. There is also another way to the pinnacle. One can climb from the Bortychi naal trail. This is most recommended route.

Facilities – 20-30 people can be accommodated in the cave at base of pinnacle. Water is available only at the water tank near base. Food needs to be carried along.

Nearest Forts – Raigad, Torna, Konkandiva.

History – The Lingana rock is 2969 feet tall and was built by Shivaji Maharaj after he defeated the Mores. The cave at the base of pinnacle was used as a prison where 40-50 prisoners were kept at time. In the treaty of Purandar in 1665, Raigad, Lingana and Bankot remained with Shivaji himself. Lingana was in equality with Raigad and the construction and repair work was done simultaneously on both forts.
